Can I install an Interior french door in an unheated room?
I have a “mud room” where we take off our shoes, coats etc. Freezer is also in there. The door from that goes into the kitchen of the house. The mud room is not heated. I want to install a new door between the two rooms. Now is just a solid door and I would like to put in a french door. Can i use an interior french door or would it have to be an exterior door because the room is not heated?
first of all you will lose an enormous amount of heat through that door and unless you have a free heating source I’d never recommend that with the energy prices. secondly, you will have nothing but problems in the long run with the way the door opens and closes, etc since it is made for interior use only. for an additional $50 or so you can have an exterior door that will last, fit properly and not cost you an arm and a leg regarding energy consumption.
