How Do You Cut Laminate Flooring To Install Around A Radiator With Two Pipes And Four Legs?

We installed laminate floor in our dining room and are stuck by the 4 ft. long radiator that is a few inches from the wall. How do we cut and connect the floor?

Another option if the pipe connected to the radiator has a little give, you can raise the radiator up. I did one of these the other day and I jacked it up with my car jack. However, on this particular one we removed some flooring that was the same thickness as the new flooring. So it may or may not work.

It takes two pieces of flooring to fit around one pipe. If you cut the pieces as described below, you can use less pieces if you cut cross across the pieces instead of lengthwise.

You measure the diameter of each pipe and where the pipe will be going through a Single piece of laminate. Then you drill a hole through the laminate the diameter of the pipe. Next you saw the laminate into two pieces with One Edge of The Saw Blade Aligned through the dead center of the hole you cut. This will give you one side of hole exactly fit half way around the pipe. The other side of the piece you cut will be too small because the saw blade is 3/32 inch wide.

You repeat the process for the other side of the pipe, making sure you align the saw blade to go through the hole on the opposite side of the dead center. Finally you put the two pieces together around the pipe and fasten them down with glue or finish nails depending on the type of fasteners you are using.

You should start that run of laminate flooring at the pipe, so you could cut the hole on the end of two boards, and the tabs that would join at the pipe you would shave off…Then install the two boards clear of the radiator, and then slide it to touch the pipe, more likely you’ll tap it in..If it won’t slide, shave the long length tab…Hopefully it’ll slide under the legs…If it’s a new Radiator, just dis-connect it.
