Sanding Hardwood Floors

Do you have to polyurethane hardwood floors right away after sanding them?

My husband and I are going to refinish the floors on the first floor of our newly renovated home this weekend. We are planning on using water based polyurethane. We want to do one of the bedrooms upstairs also because the floors are really rough, but we don’t have time to seal it this weekend. Is it possible to just sand the bedroom floor really smooth, live on the floor for a while (say one month), then put the water based polyurethane on it? We just want to not have to rent the sander more than once. Is this possible?

you could stain them first……but, to keep them pristine, seal them asap!
